The dam José de la Quintana ( Spanish Dique José de la Quintana ) is a dam with hydroelectric power station in the province of Cordoba , Argentina . It dams the Río Los Molinos to a reservoir. The dam and the associated power station Los Molinos II (span. Central hidroeléctrica Los Molinos II ) are also known as the Los Molinos II hydroelectric power plant complex (span. Complejo hidroeléctrico Los Molinos II ). The Los Molinos I power plant is located about 2 km upstream from the José de la Quintana dam .

The dam is used to generate electricity and supply drinking water. Construction of the dam began in 1952. It was completed in 1954. The dam and the power plant are owned by Subsec. de Recursos Hídricos de Córdoba .

Barrier structure

The barrier structure is a concrete gravity dam with a height of 28.6 m above the river bed (maximum height 33 m). The top of the wall lies at a height of 515.5 m above sea level . The length of the wall crown is 551 m, its width at the crown 4 m. The volume of the barrier structure is 67,650 m³.

The dam wall has both a flood relief and a bottom outlet . A maximum of 600 m³ / s can be discharged via the flood discharge, and a maximum of 10 m³ / s via the bottom outlet.

Reservoir

The normal destination is between 506.3 and 511.8 m. With a storage target of 511.8 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 0.44 km² and holds 3.83 million m³ of water. The maximum storage destination is 513.8 m, the minimum 505 m.

power plant

The Los Molinos II power plant went into operation in October 1957. The power plant's machine house is about 1.5 km downstream of the dam on the left bank of the river. The installed capacity is 4 (or 4.48) MW . The average annual production of the two power plants Los Molinos I and Los Molinos II is given as 185 million  kWh .

The Kaplan turbine has a maximum output of 4.48 MW. The nominal speed of the turbines is 600 min −1 . The fall height is between 40 and 45 m. The flow rate is 7 m³ / s (maximum 12.3, minimum 6.3 m³ / s).
