The Los Molinos dam ( Dique Los Molinos in Spanish ) is a dam with hydroelectric power plant in the province of Cordoba , Argentina . It dams the Río Los Molinos to a reservoir. The dam and the associated power plant Los Molinos I (span. Central hidroeléctrica Los Molinos I ) are also known as the Los Molinos I hydroelectric power plant complex (span. Complejo hidroeléctrico Los Molinos I ). About 2 km downstream from the Los Molinos I power station is the José de la Quintana dam with the Los Molinos II power station .
The dam is used to generate electricity and supply drinking water. Construction of the dam began in 1948 (or 1949). It was completed in 1951 and inaugurated on October 23, 1953. The dam and the power plant are owned by Subsec. de Recursos Hídricos de Córdoba .
Barrier structure
The barrier structure is a concrete arch dam with a height of 58 m above the river bed (maximum height 64 m). The top of the wall lies at a height of 770 m above sea level . The length of the wall crown is 240 m, its width at the crown 8.4 m. The volume of the barrier structure is 96,400 m³. The dam wall has a flood relief , through which a maximum of 660 m³ / s can be discharged.
Reservoir
The normal destination is between 736 and 765 m. With a reservoir target of 765 m, the reservoir extends over an area of around 21.11 km² and holds 307 million m³ of water. The maximum storage destination is 769 m, the minimum 747.6 m.
power plant
The Los Molinos I power plant went into operation in October 1957. The power plant's machine house is located about 5 km downstream of the dam on the left bank of the river. The installed capacity is 48 (or 53.36) MW . The average annual production of the two power plants Los Molinos I and Los Molinos II is given as 185 million kWh .
The 4 Francis turbines have a maximum output of 13.34 MW each and the generators each 17.36 MVA . The nominal speed of the turbines is 750 min −1 . The fall height is between 196 and 248 m. The flow rate is 6.1 m³ / s (maximum 7.26, minimum 3 m³ / s). There is also a Pelton turbine to supply personal needs .
