Meng Wanzhou (born February 13, 1972 in Chengdu ) is a Chinese businesswoman.

Career

Wanzhou is the daughter of Ren Zhengfei and his first wife Meng Jun. She has a brother. After graduating from college in 1992, she worked for a year at China Construction Bank . Then she joined her father's company Huawei as a secretary . She also studied at the University of Science and Technology Central China in Wuhan , where she graduated with a master's degree. Her other places of residence were Vancouver and Hong Kong . She has been CFO at Huawei since March 2018 .

On December 1, 2018, she was arrested in Vancouver at a request from the United States . She is accused of conspiracy to defraud banks and circumvent US sanctions against Iran . In contrast, her lawyers claim that the evidence presented by the US is "unreliable and flawed" and should therefore not be taken into account by the Canadian court in the trial of extradition to the US. The trial is expected to last until April 2021. Wanzhou is currently under house arrest in Vancouver.

She has been married to Liu Xiaozong since 2007. The marriage resulted in a child. The other three children were brought into the marriage by her husband.
