The Malpaso dam is located on the upper reaches of the Río Mantaro in the Peruvian region of Junín . There it is located 21 km northwest of the city of La Oroya in the Paccha district in the Yauli province . The dam is used to supply energy.
dam
The dam has a crown length of about 245 m. It dams the Río Mantaro over a length of 10.3 km. The maximum reservoir width is 500 m. The Upamayo Dam lies 82 km upstream , not far from the outflow of Lake Junín .
Hydroelectric power plant
The Malpaso hydroelectric power station (Spanish: Central Hidroeléctrica Malpaso ⊙ ) is located downstream, 2 km from the dam. It has 4 units, of which units 2, 3 and 4 went into operation in 1937. Unit 1 has been producing electricity since 1954. Each unit includes a vertically directed Francis turbine . The total installed output is 54.4 MW, the effective power plant capacity is 48.02 MW. The average annual energy production is 261 GWh. An approximately 2 km long underground aqueduct leads from the reservoir to the moated castle ( ⊙ ) and on to the power station. The at an altitude of 3870 m The preferred water power plant uses a net fall height of 80 m. The expansion water volume is 80 m³ / s.
The plant was taken over by SN Power Perú in 2007. It has been run under the direction of Statkraft since 2014 .
