Tamás Hausel (* 1972 ) is a Hungarian mathematician.

Hausel studied at the Eötvös Loránd University in Budapest with a diploma in 1995 and at Cambridge University , where he also received the Certificate of Higher Mathematics in 1995. In 1998 he received his doctorate from Trinity College in Cambridge with Nigel Hitchin (Geometry of the moduli space of Higgs bundles). As a post-doctoral student he was at the Institute for Advanced Study in Princeton and from 1999 to 2002 as a Miller Fellow at the University of California, Berkeley . In 2002 he became an Assistant Professor and in 2006 an Associate Professor at the University of Texas at Austin . From 2007 to 2012 he was at Wadham College at Oxford University (as a tutorial fellow) and in 2012 he became professor of geometry at the École polytechnique fédérale de Lausanne .

He deals with the global analysis , geometry and topology of Hyperkähler manifolds , non-Abelian Hodge theory , the geometric Langlands program , Yang-Mills instantons and representation theory of Köchern and Kac-Moody algebras .

In 2008 he received the Whitehead Prize .
