Tamsir Mbowe

Tamsir Mbowe (born February 9, 1964 in Bathurst, today Banjul ) was Minister of Health and Social Welfare ( Secretary of State for Health and Social Welfare ) of the West African state of Gambia .

Life

After finishing school, Tamsir Mbowe studied at Obafemi Awolowo University in Ile-Ife , Nigeria , from 1985 to 1986 . His first stay abroad took him to Luhansk , Ukraine , where he was employed at the State Medical University from 1988 to 1994 . Then from 1995 to 1997 he was at the Korle Bu Teaching Hospital in Accra , Ghana . Mbowe spent the period from 1998 to 1999 in Ireland at the University of Dublin . In his medical education he had specialized in gynecology , reproductive medicine and family planning .

Mbowe had, among other things, practiced more than 3000 caesarean sections and nearly 6000 removals of the uterus . He is also a medical advisor to two clinics in Gambia. On March 4, 2005, he was appointed to succeed Yankuba Gassama as Minister of Health and Social Affairs. In this capacity Mbowe was dismissed from office with effect from November 9, 2007. He was succeeded by the Medical Director of the Royal Victoria Teaching Hospital (RVTH) Malick Njie .

Mbowe is married and has four children.
