The Tanafjord ( Sami : Deanuvuotna ) is a fjord in the Norwegian province of Troms og Finnmark on the banks of the municipalities of Gamvik , Berlevåg and Tana . The fjord extends from the Barents Sea 65 km south to the settlement of Smalfjord at the end of the fjord. To the west of the fjord is the North Chin Peninsula , to the east the Varanger Peninsula .
The fjord entrance is between Omgangsneset in the west and Skarveneset in the east. The Tanafjord has many branches with most of the settlements at the ends.
Side fjords of the Tanafjord are Tyfjord , Skarfjord , Rafjord , Hopsfjord and Langfjord on its west side and the Trollfjord on its east side .
The fjord divides into five arms at its end. From west to east these are Vestertana , Tarmfjord , Smalfjord , the mouth of the Tanaelva River and Leirpollen .
The roads Riksvei 98 and Riksvei 890 run along the end of the fjord.
