The Tanana Valley (German: Tanana Valley ) is a lowland area on the Tanana River in the Interior of Alaska .

The valley is with the second largest city in the state, Fairbanks , the most densely populated region of Alaska north of the Alaska range . Other localities in the Tanana Valley include College , Chena Hot Springs , Eielson Air Force Base , Ester , Fort Wainwright , Fox , Manley Hot Springs , Nenana , North Pole and Two Rivers .

In the region, the valley location surrounded by mountains often creates inversion weather patterns , which lead to great temperature extremes in the course of the year and to thick fog in winter . The permafrost of the lowlands is swampy and pinged through.
