Tanja - Life in Movement is an award-winning documentary by Sophie Hyde and Bryan Mason about the German-born dancer and choreographer and the artistic work of Tanja Liedtke . The nationwide cinema release was on October 31, 2013.

action

A homage to Tanja Liedtke, who was born in Germany in 1977 . Internationally known as a dancer and choreographer, she was appointed director of the Sydney Dance Company at the age of 29 to succeed Graeme Murphy.

Her work was of great intensity, her life determined by unconditional love for her partner Solon Ulbrich and the young ensemble who trusted her. Tanja Liedtke was known as a passionate artist - intelligent, crazy, funny, big-hearted and snotty. Before she could start working in Sydney, she was killed in a traffic accident in 2007.

production

18 months after her death, the ensemble embarks on a world tour with their works. Everyone involved is confronted with their grief. And the question of how things should go on in the future without Tanja Liedtke.

The directors Sophie Hyde and Bryan Mason manage to sensitively capture this ups and downs of feelings between pain and contagious joie de vivre. Early recordings from Tanja Liedtke's private archive as well as excerpts from the main productions document her artistic work process.

At its core Tanja - Life in Movement is a film about the sources of creativity and fragility of human work.
