First Berlin gas station with service area from 1928/29

The gas station on the Lohmühleninsel was the first gas station of Berlin . Her address is Vor dem Schlesisches Tor 2 and she is on Lohmühleninsel in Berlin-Kreuzberg , on the border with the Treptow-Köpenick district . The building has been a listed building since April 8, 1993 .

history

The petrol station was designed in 1928 according to plans by the architects Paul Schröder and Max Pohl in the modern style and built by Union Baugesellschaft on shares by 1929 . It was not only a gas station, but also always a rest area for drivers and a repair shop for automobiles. Accordingly, the two architects created a lounge with a workshop. Twice, 1948–1950 and 1984/1985, the gas station was modernized according to the respective requirements. Since the 1990s, there has been an Aral company filling station next door , which made the operation of the petrol pump and the sale of fuel at the historic facility described here obsolete. After the fall of the Berlin Wall , the Zur Pump coffee house was set up in the buildings in 1999 , which was a certain replacement for the café of the same name, which was formerly located between the bridges and lost during the war. In autumn 2004 a new owner took over the property and ran the Anhalt restaurant until 2014 . Redesign plans for the corresponding area of Lohmühleninsel have become known from some city planners, which should make the petrol station and neighboring traffic areas more attractive for visitors.

Furnishing

The building is not angular or cubic, but its white facade runs in a gentle curve. The interior consists of two levels connected by a spiral staircase . The bar and around 20 seats are located in the basement. The upper floor is a circumferential gallery with a terrace .
