Tanztage Berlin
The Dance Days Berlin are an international festival of contemporary dance, which annually in the Sophiensaele in Berlin takes place. The series of events was founded in 1989 as Tanztage im Pfefferberg , a local festival for the independent dance scene, and will take place for the 22nd time in 2013.
history
The venue for the dance days, which take place in January, was initially the alternative culture center Pfefferberg on Prenzlauer Berg . Young choreographers and dancers , who had their work center in Berlin, presented new productions to the audience at this festival. It was quickly recognized as “[…] the dearest, bizarre and most amazing dance series in Berlin.” ( Berliner Zeitung ) . It had to get along with a Senate grant of 10,000 DM for the first issues and was only possible through the "[...] self-exploitation of the organizers, technicians, interns and the dancers themselves."
The Tanztage im Pfefferberg were directed from 1996 by Barbara Friedrich and later together with Benjamin Schälike. Because of the renovation of the Pfefferberg building complex, the Tanztage im Pfefferberg moved to the neighboring Sophiensaele venue in 2001 and was then called Tanztage Berlin . The Sophiensaele have since not only as a host, but also act as co-producer.

The Tanztage Berlin are a platform for young Berlin choreographers and receive public and journalistic attention. The events of the festival with mostly fourteen to eighteen productions, many of them premieres , also took place at external venues such as the Gertrud-Seele-Haus in Lanke and the Stadtbad Oderberger Straße .
From 2008 Barbara Friedrich handed over the management of the Tanztage first to the producer and curator Inge Koks (Amsterdam) and later to the Berlin performer Peter Pleyer.
