Taphropeltus hamulatus is a bug fromthe Rhyparochromidae family . The species isclosely relatedto Taphropeltus contractus . Some authors question the separate species status of the two.

features

The bugs are 2.9 to 3.4 millimeters long. The species of the genus Taphropeltus can be recognized by their head constricted behind the compound eyes . The very similar species Taphropeltus contractus differs from Taphropeltus hamulatus in its lighter color and relatively smaller antennae . In addition, the species is slightly larger.

Distribution and way of life

The species is widespread in Europe without from the northern edge of the Mediterranean area to the south of Scandinavia and the British Isles. In the east the distribution extends to the Caucasus .
