Tarek Mitri ( Arabic طارق متري, Born September 16, 1950 in Tripoli ) is a Lebanese university professor of the Greek Orthodox faith and independent politician who served in various state offices.

Life

Tarek Mitri received his Ph.D. in political science at the University of Paris X . From 1982 to 1991 he worked as a lecturer at the Université Saint-Joseph in Beirut . In addition, he served as a visiting professor in several international institutions. He has extensive experience in promoting Christian - Muslim relations and has published many writings on the subject. Mitri became Minister of State for Environment and Administrative Development of the Lebanese Republic in 2005. He also served on an interim basis as Foreign Minister before the cabinet of Fouad Siniora was formed in 2006 . On July 11, 2008, he was appointed Minister of Information in the Cabinet of Prime Minister Siniora.

On September 12, 2012, he has been prepared by the United Nations Secretary General , Ban Ki-moon , the special representative and head of the assistance mission (UNSMIL) of the United Nations in Libya appointed.

Points of view

Tarek Mitri says his role is that of a lawyer advocating the freedom of expression and thought of intellectuals and artists. Mitri is also an advocate for Lebanese unity.
