Tarin Kut is the capital of the southern Afghan province of Uruzgan and the name of the surrounding district.

The district had a population of 110,000 in 2006.

The river Chor (also Darwishan ) (from the Chora district ) flows through the city of Tarin Kut into the river Tīrī Rūd (also Teri or Tarin ) (from the Khas Uruzgan district ) coming from the east (from the Khas Uruzgan district ), which in turn is at Dihrawud in the Hilmend opens. The two rivers Chor and Tīrī Rūd flow through wide and inhabited valleys. The two rivers are also fed by other streams coming from the neighboring mountains.

There is a road from Tarin Kut to Kandahar .

history

On July 28, 2011, the Taliban launched a coordinated attack on the governor's residence, police headquarters, the headquarters of a local television station, a hospital maternity ward and various other buildings. According to the authorities, suicide bombers set off three car bombs almost simultaneously. Heavy fighting ensued. A total of at least 22 people were killed. There were twelve children among them. The ISAF announced that they were supporting government forces with combat helicopters and ground troops.
