Tarmo Tamm (born December 3, 1953 in Kiuma , today rural municipality Põlva ) is an Estonian politician. Since December 12, 2016 he has been Minister for Rural Development of the Republic of Estonia. Tamm belongs to the Estonian Center Party (Eesti Keskerakond) .

Life

Early years

Tarmo Tamm graduated in 1974 his studies at technical college of the state farms in South-Estonian Tihemetsa from. In 2007 he graduated from the Estonian University of Environmental Sciences in Tartu with a degree in Agriculture .

From 1976 to 1993, Tamm worked for the Põlva Agro farm .

politics

With the regaining of Estonian independence, Tarmo Tamm went into politics. In 1991 he was elected to the Põlva Municipal Council for the first time. From 1993 to 1999, Tamm was the mayor of the Põlva rural community . From 1999 to 2011 he was the mayor of Põlva . In 2002 Tarmo Tamm joined the Estonian Center Party.

In 2011 he moved to the Estonian Parliament ( Riigikogu ) as a member and was re-elected in 2015. Since the Center Party's entry into government in November 2016, he was parliamentary group leader of his party. After his party colleague Martin Repinski had to resign after a few weeks in office, he moved into the cabinet of Prime Minister Jüri Ratas as Minister for Rural Development .

Private

Tarmo Tamm is married. He has a daughter and two sons.
