Gabriel Lämmle (born March 13, 1851 in Laupheim ; † November 12, 1925 in Neufra near Riedlingen ) was a German sculptor .

Life

Gabriel Lämmle was born on March 13, 1851 in Laupheim as the son of a wood turner. At the age of 18 he enrolled at the Academy of Fine Arts in Munich in 1869 , where he attended Josef Knabl 's class for Christian sculpture. Lämmle has probably previously completed an apprenticeship with a sculptor or stonemason. After studying in Munich, he settled in Ravensburg as a freelance sculptor. There he married in 1876 the actress Barbara Wackerle (1851-1935), who was the same age and who came from Innsbruck, who gave birth to eight children between 1877 and 1891. From 1883 to 1905 Lämmle worked in Riedlingen, then in Herbertingen , where, in addition to his work as a sculptor, he ran the local train station management. Apparently he was hardly able to find new church clients at that time, after the booming church building had already declined sharply towards the end of the 19th century and many of the late Nazarene carvers and altar builders lost their main source of income.
