Tarot is a heavy metal band from Kuopio ( Finland ). In their home country the band is also known as the “godparents” of Finnish heavy metal. The best-known member is the singer and bassist Marco Hietala , who has also been active with Nightwish since 2001 .

history

The brothers Marco and Zachary Hietala founded the band "Purgatory" in the early 1980s . After the band got a record deal, the company asked to change the band name, as there were many other bands with this name. Since then the band has operated under the name Tarot.

In 1986 the first single was released with Wings of Darkness . The title of this song is also the address of the band's official homepage. The debut album Spell of Iron followed . The second album Follow Me into Madness followed a year later . Both albums were successful in Finland and Tarot toured the land of a thousand lakes with large equipment. Even the roadies of Metallica were amazed at the large number of boxes, used the Tarot for their concerts.

After the second album it was quiet around the band for a few years. The second guitarist Mako H. left the band and was replaced by keyboardist Janne Tolsa. It wasn't until 1993 that the third album To Live Forever was released , which was particularly successful in Japan . The recording of a concert at the famous Tavastia Club in Helsinki was released as a live album in Japan. Some of the songs from this live album were released in Europe as a bonus CD on the Stigmata album.

In 1998 the fifth album For the Glory of Nothing was released . In Japan the best of album Shining Black was also put in stores. In the following years the band played only a few concerts. Marco Hietala joined the band Sinergy . In 2001 he left Sinergy and joined Nightwish as the new bass player . After touring the Century Child album, Tarot signed a new contract with Spinefarm Records and the album Suffer Our Pleasures was released, which was very successful in Finland. In 2006 the band found a new record company with King Foo Entertainment. The single You reached number one on the Finnish single charts and the new album Crows Fly Black was also successful. At the end of 2006 Tarot signed a contract with Nuclear Blast for the rest of Europe. In 2007 Tarot went on a concert tour in Germany for the first time. They were accompanied by Diablo .

Drummer Pecu Cinnari died on September 10, 2016 after a long illness.

Since then the band has been inactive and it is not known whether Tarot broke up or not.
