Tasi Tibalau

Tasi Tibalau is a beach on the coast of the Savu Sea in the northwest of the country East Timor .

geography

The beach is located in Suco Gugleur ( Maubara administrative office , Liquiçá municipality ), about an hour's drive from the state capital Dili . The beach is bordered in the east by the striking Tibalau rock in the sea, which lies at the end of a natural pool formed by smaller rocks, the actual Tasi Tibalau ( tetum Tibalau sea ). The course of the Maraes flows further east .

Even if tourists and weekenders from the western state capital Dili, an hour's drive away, like to use the pool for swimming, the locals are afraid to go into the water here. For them, the pool is a sacred place ( lulik ) and is taboo. The forces of nature here bear responsibility if the rain stops or animals disappear. Nevertheless, access to the beach and pools is not forbidden as the local population benefits economically from the visitors.
