Coordinates: 43 ° 6 ′ S , 147 ° 45 ′ E The Tasman Municipality is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Tasmania . The area is 660 km² and has about 2350 inhabitants (2016).
Tasman is located in the southeast of the island and consists of the Tasman and Forestier Peninsula about 40 kilometers southeast of the capital Hobart . The area consists of 14 hamlets and towns: Eaglehawk Neck , Fortescue, Highcroft, Koonya, Murdunna, Nubeena, Oakwood, Port Arthur , Premaydena, Saltwater River, Taranna, Turners Point and White Beach. The seat of the council is in the town of Nubeena on the west coast of the Tasman Island, where about 300 inhabitants live (2016).

The Tasman Council has nine members. The mayor (mayor), his deputy (deputy) and seven councilors are directly elected by the residents of the LGA. Tasman is not divided into districts.
