The Tatar State University of Humanities and Education ( Russian Татарский государственный гуманитарно-педагогический университет , Tatar Татар дәүләт гуманитар-педагогика университеты) was one of the oldest and largest universities in Russia . Since 2011 it has been a part of the Kazan Federal University .

The Pedagogical University was founded in Kazan on October 24, 1876 (at first it was a teacher training college, after which one could enter a university). The name has been changed a few times. In the Soviet era it was called "Kazan State Pedagogical University".
More than 15,000 students studied at its 16 faculties every semester. After the merger of the three universities, four new faculties were created which served non-educational purposes, here the Faculty of Law and the Faculty of Marketing and Design. The university offered 28 subjects. The language of instruction was Russian , but there were also subjects taught in Tatar language.
In 2005 the Pedagogical University was merged with the Tatar Humanitarian and Tatar-American Regional University and was renamed the "Tatar State Humanities and Pedagogical University".
In 2011, as part of a university reform, several Kazan universities were amalgamated, and since then the university has been part of the Kazan Federal University .

The old main building is a monument from the second half of the 19th century. The first Kazan secondary school was founded at the suggestion of the Kazan merchants and was initially located in a rented building in today's Baumannstrasse. The main building was built in 1879 according to the project of the graduate of the Art Academy HG Pashkovsky. In contrast to the graduates of the grammar schools, the Realschule graduates could only attend technical universities, and only since the 20th century have they been allowed to study at medical, physical and mathematical faculties. Among the graduates of the first Kazan secondary school were the Tatar revolutionary Mullanur Wachitov, who later became a Soviet party functionary, and the Foreign Minister of the USSR Vyachelav Molotov .
