The Omsk State Pedagogical University (also Omsk State Pedagogical University , Russian Омский государственный педагогический университет Omski gossudarstwenny pedagogitscheski uniwersitet , English Omsk State Pedagogical University , shortly ОмГПУ or OmSPU ) is a 1932 founded state pedagogical university in Omsk , Russia .

History of the university

The Omsk Pedagogical Institute was founded in 1932. Back then there were only three faculties: the Faculty of Philology , the Faculty of Physics and Mathematics and the Faculty of Biology and Chemistry . In 1932 the first 120 students were accepted, of whom 79 were later dismissed as young teachers.

Before the war two faculties were opened, one for history and one for geography . After the war three more faculties were founded, namely the faculty for foreign languages , a faculty for lower-level teaching and one for professional development for teachers.

The institute was given the name AMGorki in 1936 . It has been a university since 1993.

There are 16 faculties and 64 chairs. The following are also available:

  • five university buildings
  • three student dormitories
  • a publisher
  • a healing center
  • a sanatorium for prophylactic care
  • a field station
  • an agrobiological center
  • Sports club etc.

There are two branches of the university in the north and south of Omsk Oblast : in Tara and in Novovarschawka .

The university library, founded in 1932, contains more than 700,000 books, the oldest of which were published in the 17th century.

Teachers and courses

Around 800 lecturers work at the university, including more than 90 postdoctoral degrees and professors and over 400 non-habilitated doctors and lecturers. The university's faculties and chairs form specialists in 45 subjects , 17 of which are not educational.

Of the 13,000 students, around 1,500 graduate each year. The university's scientific and research base enables the training of qualified specialists in modern and perspective fields: specialist, bachelor and master . All conditions for scientific work also apply: Aspirantur , doctorate and councils for science and research.
