Tatarstan Airlines ( Russian Авиакомпания Татарстан , also Tatarstan Air Company ) was a Russian airline based in Kazan in Tatarstan and based at Kazan Airport . It lost its operating license at the end of 2013 after a serious accident.

history

Tatarstan Airlines was founded in 1993 and started operations in the same year.

After the serious accident on November 17, 2013 (see below), the Russian supervisory authority revoked its license on December 31, 2013 due to violations of safety-relevant regulations. It is therefore no longer allowed to operate flights.

Destinations

Tatarstan Airlines carried out scheduled services with a focus on destinations within Russia as well as charter flights , with Turkey and Egypt being particularly important in the charter segment .

Incidents

  • In September 2010 Tatarstan Airlines hit the headlines after six passengers on a flight from Ankara to Yekaterinburg had to stand in the cabin because there were no more seats. The reason for this was that the airline carried out the fully booked flight with another aircraft of the same series, which, however, only had 142 seats, instead of a planned 148-seat Boeing 737 .
  • On November 17, 2013, a 23-year-old Boeing 737-500 of Tatarstan Airlines on flight U363 on behalf of Ak Bars Aero from Moscow crashed while landing in Kazan. According to the Russian authorities, all inmates, including 44 passengers and 6 crew members, were killed. The crashed machine was involved in an incident in South America in 2001 and was badly damaged when it shot over a runway (see also Tatarstan Airlines flight 363 ) .
