Tatev Abrahamyan ( Armenian Տաթև Աբրահամյան / Tatew Abrahamjan , born January 13, 1988 in Yerevan , Armenian SSR , Soviet Union ) is an American chess player .

Tatev Abrahamyan was born in the Soviet Union . Her parents were chemists at the Yerevan State University . At eight, she took her father with the Chess Olympiad in 1996 , where the only woman participating the competition, chess Grand Master (GM) Judit Polgár , great impression made on Tatev. She began to play chess herself and soon took part in tournaments. When she was thirteen, her family moved to the United States and settled in Glendale, California . After just one year, she won the K-12 National Championships in Dallas.

She took part in the United States Women's Chess Championship eleven times up to 2019 , was runner-up in 2004, 2011 and 2019, and third in 2005, 2008 and 2013. In 2006 she won the XVII Pan American Youth Festival in the female U18 category and won every game.

Tatev Abrahamyan was represented at four Chess Olympiads in the American women's team from 2008 to 2014 . She also competed with the US selection of the World Team Championships for women in 2009, 2013 and 2015 in part. In the United States Chess League , Abrahamyan played for the Los Angeles Vibe team from 2010 to 2013 , and was nominated for the second All Star Team in 2011 .

Tatev Abrahamyan studied Political Science and Psychology at California State University and graduated in 2011. In the same year she received the FIDE title of Women's Grand Master .

In September 2018 she achieved her third IM norm and is now awaiting recognition as an International Master by FIDE.
