Midnight Lady is a rock - ballad that of Dieter Bohlen written by former Smokie singer Chris Norman was sung. It was number one in the German charts for six weeks in May and June 1986 .
Creation and publication
Bohlen wrote the song for the Tatort episode Der Tausch mit Götz George as Commissioner Horst Schimanski , which was broadcast on April 13, 1986 and in which it was used, among other things, as the theme song . Chris Norman had tried to start a solo career since 1982, but with little success. Bohlen wrote about the first meeting of the two in his autobiography: "With him, so to speak, nothing was going on except his nose!" Norman recalled as follows:
“I had a meeting with the manager of a music publisher in Hamburg . And he called Dieter Bohlen during the meeting and told him that he was sitting with me. And Dieter, who didn't live far away, said: 'Tell him not to go away!' He got into his car and 20 minutes later he was there to meet me. "
A few days later Bohlen had finished the song, he also produced it; according to Norman, it was recorded in less than an hour.
“First I had lunch with a couple of people, then we went to the studio and we were done with afternoon tea. Then the record came out and was a huge hit. "

According to the NDR, the single sold almost a million times in Germany . It was a number one hit in Germany and was also successful in Switzerland and Austria , where it also climbed to the top of the charts. Version by Roland Kaiser
The German version, Midnight Lady (Einsam as I) , was sung by Roland Kaiser with a text written by Kaiser and Norbert Hammerschmidt . It was released on May 12, 1986. Kaiser appeared with the song three times in the ZDF hit parade ; he was elected to first place by TED vote on June 18, 1986 and was therefore allowed to sing the song again in the following edition on July 17 (summer hit parade on the island of Mallorca ). On January 14, 1987, he also appeared with the song in the hit parade edition Hits des Jahres '86 . Kaiser's version reached 16th place in both Germany and Austria. In 1997, the version was used as a kind of homage in Schimanski: Hart am Limit .
In 2019, Ben Zucker and Bonnie Tyler sang a German-English duet of the song in the ARD show Alle singen Kaiser, broadcast for Kaiser .
