Tay Za

Tay Za , also written Tayza or Teza , ( Burmese တေ ဇ ; born July 18, 1967 in Rangoon , Burma ) is a Burmese businessman who is closely associated with the general of the former military junta Than Shwe .

Life

Tay Za is the youngest of six children of a former lieutenant colonel . In 1982 he completed the 10th grade exams at the TTC in Rangoon and entered the Academy of Armed Forces in Pyin U Lwin in the highlands east of Mandalay . However, he had to break off his training there because he married a young woman without the permission of her parents or the academy. He even ended up in the military prison for this transgression .

Tay Za bears the Burmese honorary title Thiri Pyanchi .

Business interests

Tay Za's company Htoo Group has been mainly involved in the export of whole teak logs since the early 1990s and was Burma's largest private exporter according to the last available business figures from 2007. Tay Za's other business areas are the construction industry, infrastructure projects, tourism and mobile phones.

Air Bagan is so far (2012) the only private airline in Burma. She is the main sponsor of Yangon United Football Club .

Sanctions

The Ray Zas companies have been subject to international sanctions by the European Union , the USA and other countries since 2007 .
