Air Bagan ceased operations in 2015. The information in italics refer to the last status before the end of operation.

Air Bagan was a Myanmar airline based in Yangon and based at Yangon International Airport . The name of the company is reminiscent of the historic royal city of Bagan on the Irrawaddy .

history

Air Bagan was founded in June 2004 and began flight operations on November 15, 2004.

The airline is on the list of Specially Designated Nationals and Blocked Persons of the United States Treasury . This means that Americans are not allowed to establish business relationships with Air Bagan, not even through subsidiaries abroad.

On August 16, 2015, Air Bagan temporarily ceased flight operations. The reason was the total loss of the ATR 72-320 due to the accident on July 24th of the same year, which meant that the company was no longer able to maintain flight operations.

Destinations

Air Bagan mainly operated domestic scheduled flights. Internationally only Chiang Mai was served.

fleet

As of April 2018, Air Bagan's fleet consists of an ATR 72-500 . In the past she also used Airbus A310-200 , ATR 42-300 and 72-200 as well as Fokker 100 .

Incidents

  • On February 19, 2008, the crew on Air Bagan Flight 252 canceled take-off from Putao due to engine problems, but did not come to a stop in time. The ATR 72-212 with the aircraft registration XY-AIE rolled up an embankment and buckled in the fuselage. The plane was written off as irreparable, the occupants got away with the horror.
  • On December 25, 2012, Air Bagan Flight 011 crashed while landing at Heho Airport . On board were 65 passengers, four crew members and two pilots. In the crash, a passenger and a moped driver who was killed by the crashing machine were killed and 26 passengers were injured. After the twenty-year-old Fokker 100 with the aircraft registration XY-AGC landed , a fire broke out. An engine fire had previously required an emergency landing, but this took place in a field instead of on the runway.
  • On July 24, 2015 shot ATR 72-200 with the air vehicle registration XY-AIH to Air Bagan flight 9424 from Mandalay to Yangon Airport Rangoon over the runway out. The aircraft had to be written off as a total write-off, which meant that the company had to temporarily stop flight operations.
