The Taygete Cone is an extinct volcanic cone in East Antarctic Victoria Land . It rises northeast of the Alcyone Cone in the northern part of the mountain range The Pleiades .
Scientists in a 1971 to 1972 campaign as part of New Zealand's Victoria University's Antarctic Expeditions named it after Taygeta , a star in the Pleiades star cluster .
