history
Bless the Lord is one of the oldest chants from Taizé, it was composed in the 80s by Jacques Berthier , the text comes from Psalm 103,1–4 LUT . In the first publication, the text is still slightly modified; it was not until 1991 that the current version was included in the songbook. Since then it has been consistently included in the Taizé hymn book, in the current version under song number 5. The song has been translated into the following languages with a singable version: Spanish , Arabic , Catalan , Chinese with a transcription in Cantonese , Estonian , Croatian , Latvian , Lithuanian , Dutch , Polish , Romanian , Albanian , Slovenian and Russian .
The song is an integral part of the daily prayers of the brothers and is sometimes sung in languages other than English. It can be repeated any number of times and can be supported by instruments or solo chants. It is also a popular song in international Taizé prayers such as the Night of Lights and in church services worldwide. It was among other things in the song books Das Liedbuch. Faith - life - love - hope and ways of life included.
