Taynuilt ( Gaelic : Taigh an Uillt ) is a small town in the Scottish Council Area Argyll and Bute . It is located in the north of the sparsely populated region about 14 kilometers east of Oban and 44 kilometers southwest of Fort William not far from the bank of the inlet Loch Etive . In 1991 Taynuilt had 615 inhabitants. The town owes its positive population development in the 20th century to tourism and the establishment of the nearby hydroelectric power station.

The village is located directly on the A85 that connects Oban with Perth . The B845 runs from a jetty in the north through the village to Loch Awe in the south. Taynuilt has had its own train station since the 19th century. This is now served by the West Highland Line between Glasgow and Oban.
Attractions
In the vicinity of Taynuilt there is a monument from the highest Scottish monument category A. These are the facilities of the former Bonawe ironworks , which was built in the 1750s and contributed much to the development of Taynuilt. Both the neo-Gothic parish church Muckairn Kirk in Taynuilt and the associated rectory are listed in category B; likewise the Nelson Monument and the Taynuilt Inn .
