Tears of Fire is a black and funeral doom band founded in 1998 .

history

Tears of Fire was founded in 1998 in Tehran by "Magus Lord Faustoos Crowley". "Faustoos" graduated from Iran with a master's degree in philosophy and a doctorate in theology , while traveling through neighboring countries to study calligraphy , meditation and shamanism . The band name is in the context of his preoccupation with Iranian fire temples where “Faustoos” dealt with the silent edition .

The band's first concert took place on July 7, 1999 as the opening of a religious event and was canceled by staff at the Ministry of Intelligence . The secret service turned off the electricity, destroyed instruments and arrested some of the band members, while others managed to escape with the help of the crowd. Among other things, singer "Magus Lord Faustoos Crowley" was imprisoned. Pictures and videos were confiscated and deleted from the Alzahra University archive . On July 15, the remaining musicians performed to celebrate the Tirgan hard in the province of Khuzestan on. The gig remained the band's final appearance in Iran. “Faustoos” continued to act with critical installation and performance art and was imprisoned again. After experiencing torture, he agreed not to continue his socio-critical art. After his release from prison "Faustoos" fled to Goa . Where he cooperated with international musicians and artists.

In Goa he met the singer Çaruk Revan, among others. After the Iranian musician decided to leave her homeland permanently due to various repression by the Iranian state, friends recommended that her turn to the "Faustoos" who were then living in Goa. Both experimented with folk music from the accordion and traditional Iranian stringed instruments . Some time later, the two met again in Greifswald in 2011 . At that time, “Faustoos” was already in the process of founding various music projects.

After relocating to Berlin, “Faustoos” reactivated Tears of Fire in 2016, together with Revan, the Swedish drummer Martin Tri Cederlund and the French violinist Constance Marchand. In the same year, the filmmaker Janne Vuorela began his story with “Faustoos” and to portray band projects like Nashmeh and Tears of Fire, as well as his partly satanic criticism of Islam in the documentary Persian Black Metal Story . While the film was being made, Tears of Fire made appearances across Europe, including the debut Aeon कल्प kalpa . “Barbara von Bogenstreich” / “Stella Babarella” from Cultus Ferox took part in the debut as a guest musician. The debut was praised as “fascinating” and “innovative” in reviews. Meanwhile, Marchand and Revan left Tears of Fire.

style

The music played by Tears of Fire is categorized as Funeral Doom under the influence of Iranian music , as a mixture of Oriental music, Funeral Doom and Black Metal , and as "Torturous Funeral Doom". The musical influences of oriental music give the style of the band independence in the genre and "another dimension". The singing performed mainly in Fârsi varies between growling and "crazy sounding screams".
