Edward "Ted" King (born January 31, 1983 in Exeter ) is a former American cyclist .

Ted King didn't start cycling until he was in college . At first he only drove races in the USA. In 2005 he was part of the US U23 national team.

In 2006, King turned pro with the Priority Health team . The following year he won the Three Village Tour , the Hanes Park Classic and the Tour of the Hilltowns in 2008, the Lake Auburn Road Race in 2009 and the Housatonic Hills Road Race in 2010 . In 2010 he started at the road world championships . From 2011 he rode for the Cannondale Pro Cycling team (formerly Liquigas-Cannondale ); that year he finished third in the national road championship. In 2013 he was part of his team for the Tour de France , but retired from his first tour start after the fourth stage because he exceeded the time limit after injuring his shoulder. The following year he fell twice again and had to give up prematurely. At the end of the 2015 season he ended his active cycling career.

King was a specialty in Team Cannondale in several ways: He was the only American who, with a height of almost 1.90 meters, towered over most of his teammates, many of them Italians. He was also the only one with a university degree (in economics ) who also wrote columns for magazines and other websites.

After the end of his career as an elite racing driver, Ted King continues to compete in amateur bike races; he won the Dirty Kanza in 2016 and 2018 .
