Edward Stickles
Edward "Ted" Stickles (born April 7, 1942 in San Francisco , California , USA ) is a former American swimmer.
Ted Stickles swam 4 world records over 400 m medley . He was the first person who swam the 200 yard positions under 2 minutes and the 400 m positions under 5 minutes.
For 3 years, Stickles held the world record in one of the two individual medley disciplines.
At the height of his swimming career, he barely missed taking part in the 1964 Olympic Games in Tokyo , because a tendinitis prevented him from elbow exercising. This was a huge disappointment as his sister Terri Stickles qualified to participate. It would have been the first time that brother and sister took part in the Olympics on the same team.
From 1962 to 1965 Stickles trained at Indiana University under coach James Counsilman . He was inducted into the International Swimming Hall of Fame in 1995.
