Tar furnace bridge

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Teerofenbrücke is a residential area that belongs to the Schwedt district of Hohenfelde . The name comes from the tar furnace built there in 1745 for charcoal and tar extraction and the bridge built there in 1913/14 after the expansion of the Hohensaaten-Friedrichsthal waterway . The bridge was blown up in the last days of World War II and later rebuilt. It is the last bridge over this canal and is located at river kilometer 130.85 of the Havel-Oder waterway . “Teerofenbrücke” is also the street name of the junction from Bundesstraße 2 to this residential area.

Teerofenbrücke is not permanently inhabited. The Teerofenbrücke Wilderness School has been located here since 1998 , an environmental education and nature recreation facility in the Unteres Odertal National Park , which is operated by the non-profit Internationalpark Unteres Odertal gGmbH . The facility comprises 13 wooden bungalows as well as a supply building and the national park laboratory . Before the reunification of Germany, the site was used as a company holiday camp for the petrochemical combine .
