Criewen is a formerly independent municipality (approx. 600 inhabitants) that has belonged to Schwedt / Oder since August 1, 2001 . It is located near the Polish border, directly adjacent to the Lower Oder Valley National Park . Criewen was first mentioned in a document in 1354 and is therefore one of the oldest recorded Slavic fishing villages.
