Johann Friedrich Bernd von Arnim (born May 20, 1850 at Gut Criewen ; † December 15, 1939 there ) was a Prussian Minister of State and Agriculture (1906/10), a member of the Prussian Manor (1906/18) and first curator of the Family Foundation from Arnim-Sperrenwalde.

He came from a Brandenburg noble family von Arnim and was the son of the landowner Gustav von Arnim (1820-1904), a member of the Prussian manor, and his wife Klara, née von Prillwitz (1831-1883).

Arnim married on December 5, 1877 in Brighton ( England ) Margarete Freiin von Arnim (born December 9, 1859 in Berlin ; † May 2, 1940 at Gut Criewen). She was the daughter of the Prussian chamberlain and real privy councilor Harry von Arnim , landowner on Güstow, Schlagenthin and others, and his wife Sophie Countess von Arnim from the Boitzenburg family. The couple had five children, including the later major general of the Wehrmacht Harry von Arnim (1890–1941).

Career

Arnim joined the Prussian Navy in 1867 and in 1875 became a lieutenant in the torpedo attempt detachment of the Imperial Navy in Kiel . Placed on the disposition in 1876 , he switched to the sea ​​defense , where he stayed until 1882, when he retired as a corvette captain . After that he managed his father's estate Criewen.

In 1872 he became chairman of the German Agricultural Society. From 1892 to 1902 he was also a member of the committee for the investigation of the water conditions in the river areas particularly exposed to the risk of flooding. In 1895 he became a deputy member of the state railway council, in 1896 a member of the management of the Uuckmark knighthood in Prenzlau and a member of the commission for the agricultural appraisal of the BGB. In 1902 he became a member of the Prussian State Economics College. Finally, he was Minister of Agriculture from November 1906 to June 1910.

Honors

The Arnimallee in Dahlem was named after him in 1908. In addition, Arnim was an honorary doctor of veterinary medicine .

His grave is in the Patronage Cemetery in Criewen.
