Particle composite

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Particle composite materials are composite materials in whose matrices particles of other elements are embedded.

Manufacturing

The characteristics, the storage of elements is achieved through the way of production. To make a particle composite, you need the right amount of the elements you want to mix. These are then mixed and sintered or pressed . The type of sintering and the grain size of the powder influence the end result. Particle composites are made from various components, among other things.

properties

Some properties are already defined by the properties of the elements used. If you mix z. B. two conductors , the result will also be conductive. On the other hand, if you use two non-conductive metals , the composite will not conduct electricity either. When selecting a composite, it is important to consider which requirements are relevant. In order to achieve the right mixture, you usually have to make a few samples and then test them .

Like most composites, particle composites have a positive mix of properties that are otherwise difficult to reconcile. These include hardness and elasticity , as well as wear resistance . Increasing in steel the carbon content is this indeed harder but also more brittle. In the case of composite materials, on the other hand, the properties can be merged by mixing hard and elastic components. A particular advantage of particle composites is their behavior at high temperatures. Almost all particle composites have a high level of heat resistance . This is achieved by incorporating a material with a higher melting point .

The properties depend on the elements used, the proportion of the stored substance, the size and morphology of the particles, impurities and the production process.

Applications

Because of their diverse properties, particle composites are used in many areas of technology . They are particularly popular because of their good heat resistance. Conductive particle composites are used for high voltage cathodes, vacuum contacts and parts of rockets . Non-conductive particle composite materials are used in lightweight construction and as permanent magnets .
