The Mont Tekao is with a height of 1,224 meters above sea level the highest mountain in the island of Nuku Hiva and after the Mont Oave the second highest peak of the Marquesas Islands in French Polynesia . The mountain is located in the west of the island in the center of the Tōviʻi plateau. It is of volcanic origin and belongs to the "Marquesas linear volcanic chain", which was formed from a hotspot on the Pacific plate and moves at a speed of 103 to 118 mm per year in the west-northwest direction.
