( Fologne , 1862)

Teleiopsis rosalbella is a butterfly ( moth ) from the family of gelechiidae (Gelechiidae).

features

The moths have a wingspan of 16 to 18 millimeters. The labial palps are white, often tinged with reddish and ringed black. The face is whitish, the head and tegula are brownish and speckled with lighter scales ; the thorax is dark brown. The antennae are ringed dark brown and indistinctly light. The forewings are blackish brown and provided in the middle with a wide, yellowish white, often reddish tinted transverse band, which is widest on the inner wing edge. Another, sometimes interrupted, transverse tie is located in the subapical area. The hind wings are gray and have yellowish gray fringed scales. Teleiopsis rosalbella shows a certain variability: the yellowish white areas of the forewings can be tinged reddish, in such specimens the light areas of the labial palps and the first two pairs of legs are also reddish.

Male genitals: They differ from other species of the diffinis group by the shorter gnathos. The uncus is moderately curved and rounded at the tip. The Gnathos is significantly shorter than the Uncus and has a rounded tip. The sclerotized area at the front edge of the tegumen is small. The saccule is broad at the base and extends well beyond the tip of the costa; the distal part is narrow; the inner edge is almost straight; the tip is serrated.

Female genitals: These are similar to the other species in the diffinis group. They differ from Teleiopsis bagriotella mainly in the indistinct, sclerotized longitudinal fold of the antrum , from Teleiopsis diffinis and Teleiopsis albifemorella in the disc-like bulge of the antrum, which extends from the anterior to the posterior border. The indentation on the back of the antrum is V-shaped.

Similar species

The bright, broad transverse band on the forewings characterizes Teleiopsis rosalbella , so that it cannot be confused with other species.

Occurrence

Teleiopsis rosalbella occurs only extremely locally in Central and Southeastern Europe. The distribution area extends from Belgium to Bosnia-Herzegovina . There are other deposits in Turkey . The species is found at altitudes of 140 to 1400 meters.

Way of life

The larvae feed on dock dock ( Rumex scutatus ), where they mine in the leaves after hatching. This creates short and narrow leaf mines with a size of about 0.5 × 12 millimeters, which are initially filled with caterpillar droppings. Later larval stages live in rolled up leaves. Like Teleiopsis albifemorella, the species is bound to calcareous soils.

Flight and caterpillar times

The moths fly from June to September and are found together with the larvae. The moths are attracted to the light .
