Telekom praxis is a trade journal for topics related to telecommunications technology . It offers both first-year students and professional specialists a forum to exchange information. The main focus of the editorial reporting lies in the development, planning and implementation of data services and describes current developments in these areas. The main addressees of telekom praxis are developers and technicians from telecommunications network operators and service providers as well as research institutions and device and system manufacturers.

history

The telecom practice was founded in 1921 by Lübeck post office man Carl JH Westphal under the name telegraph practice founded. The telegraph inspector at that time expected the trade journal to encourage a lively exchange of experiences among the specialists in the postal administration. Together with his father, he set up the Franz Westphal-Verlag, under whose directive Telegraphen-Praxis was published.

Despite the inflation that was about to peak at the beginning of the 1820s , the trade journal quickly established itself, not least because of the expansion of the dial-up telephone network that began in 1922. The specialist knowledge required for this was primarily disseminated through the medium of magazines, from which the telegraph industry also benefited.

Like many other magazines, the telegraph practice did not survive the Third Reich unscathed: In 1944, the publication of the magazine had to be stopped so that its resources could be made available to the final acts of war. This was preceded by conformity and censorship in the name of the Nazi regime, which the telegraph practice had to bow to.

For this reason, obtaining the license required to publish magazines from the allied occupying powers of Germany was relatively difficult. It was not until 1948 that a permit could be obtained and the Telegraphen-Praxis published again, albeit under the name of telecommunication praxis . In 1959, the specialist magazine was finally taken over by the Berlin specialist publisher Schiele & Schön .

There the telecommunication praxis advanced to the technical house gazette of the at that time still monopolized Federal Post Office , as it was published by the central telecommunications office . A public telecommunications network did not yet exist, so that the specialist magazine was received exclusively within the Deutsche Bundespost and its related authorities and suppliers.

The abolition of monopolies in the 1980s and 1990s, which saw telecommunications practice of liberalization over the market, which it was to adapt. An outward sign of this change was the change of name to telekom praxis in 1990 . The content of the trade journal has also been adapted to the new variety of offers and services.
