The Tjung ( Russian Тюнг ) is a 1092 km long left tributary of the Wiljui in Siberia ( Russia , Asia ).
The Tjung rises at a height of around 460 m in the northeastern part of the Central Siberian mountainous region and initially flows through the mountainous region in an easterly direction , later mostly meandering through the Central Yakutian lowland in a southeastern direction. The river always remains on the territory of the Sakha Republic (Yakutia) and finally flows into the Viljui four kilometers above the city of Viljuisk .
The catchment area of the Tjung covers 49,800 km². The mean monthly water flow is 180 m³ / s. Near the mouth, the river is about 150 meters wide, up to two meters deep, and its flow velocity is 0.6 m / s. The main tributaries are Chimidikjan ( Чимидикян ) and Jippa ( Джиппа ), both from the left.
The Tjung freezes from October to the second half of May / beginning of June.
In the lower reaches , it is navigable for 273 km from the Talygninskaya pier , but is not used for regular inland navigation as it flows through sparsely populated and less economically used areas.
To the left (east) of the central reaches of the Tjung, in the area of the confluence of the Jippa, there are sand dune areas (so-called touculans ), which cover a total area of 167 km².
