Telelok is the abbreviation for a radio-controlled shunting locomotive built in Germany with two terminal cabs .

history

While the Deutsche Bundesbahn only converted series Köf III and V 60 locomotives with a portable radio remote control (FFS) in series from the mid-1980s - and V 90 series machines from the mid-1990s - industrial companies had been around since the 1970s deliveries of such equipped shunting locomotives. During the shunting tasks, the locomotive shunter stood on one of the four shunting stands behind the buffer beam and controlled the locomotive using a remote control device that was hung around. If the FFS has a sufficient range, the locomotive does not need to be occupied in the driver's cab even when the trains are pushed. For the mixed, heavy shunting and mainline service on industrial railways , there were considerations to make the shunting trips more efficient and to build a final driver's cab between the shunting cabs instead of the middle cab, which is only used for empty or long-distance trips. Orenstein and Koppel (O & K) developed the first German manufacturer on the basis of the Hoesch Hüttenwerke AG in Dortmund and the Mannesmann Hüttenwerke AG in Duisburg supplied funds cab locomotives MBB 1200 N , a version with two Endführerstäden for Dutch steelworks ESTEL Koninklijke Hoogovens in IJmuiden . From 1999 to 2007 the IJmuiden site was part of Corus and is now part of TATA Steel .

Series

The first diesel-hydraulic teleloks from O&K for ESTEL, built in 1976, were developed in close cooperation with the customer in terms of their functionality; a 1: 1 model was even designed. Technically, the construction of the heavy, four-axle MBB 1200 N bogie locomotives was used. Of the six machines built, half were still in service at the beginning of the 2010s.

In 1979, Henschel were the first to deliver a triple-coupled diesel-hydraulic Telelok to Thyssen Henrichshütte AG in Hattingen and the steelworks in Bremen for the German market . The two Henschel locomotives for Hattingen are based on the design of the DHG 700 C , which was manufactured in just under two dozen copies at the time , while the one from O&K with the designation MC 800 N is based on the MC 700 N, which was manufactured in small numbers . The two Henschel locomotives quit their service shortly after the turn of the millennium and were at the Swedish EuroMaint Rail's Delitzsch site in 2008 , and the one-off from O&K only stayed with its first customer for two decades and was sold to the Shunting, Service and Transport Company (RST) sold in St. Ingbert. The Delitzsch rail vehicle plant was sold to the Iberia Industry Capital Group Sarl in 2016 and is now known as RailMaint GmbH.

For the Dortmund Railway , O&K and BBC developed a diesel-electric variant in this design with the designation MEC 502 , which came into service from the end of 1980. This series comprised only four machines, which were sold to the Netherlands after less than 20 years of service.

After setting the locomotive at O & K Dortmund Railway was referring to the years 1982 to 1988 more diesel-electric Teleloks made by Krauss-Maffei , the MEC 502 were externally very similar, but constructively to the built in-house Krauss-Maffei ME 05 were based . Some of these specimens were parked after less than 15 years of service and later sold or scrapped. All of the still existing locomotives of the series are now operated by the rail transport company Logistik-Service (LogServ) of voestalpine in Linz.

The Union Sidérurgique du Nord de la France ( USINOR ) had a few Fauvet-Girel 2600 locomotives converted to final driver's cabs for their extensive works railway network at the location of the former Société Lorraine de Laminage Continu SA ( SOLLAC ) in Florange, Lorraine . These are still in use today. Three other machines for these railways were delivered in a similar design as Teleloks by Arbel Fauvet Rail and are also still in use in heavy shunting service.

model

The outsiders among the shunting locomotives are available for the model railroad, even if only as a housing kit for the scale 1: 160 (N).
