Telenor Srbija ( Serbian : Теленор Србија ) is the second largest Serbian mobile phone provider, which operated under the name Mobtel until July 1, 2006.
history
Telenor Srbija was founded in 1994 as a joint venture between the Serbian Post PTT and the company "BK Trade" of the Serbian millionaire Bogoljub Karić . Karić's stake had been bought by Austrian financial investors around Martin Schlaff and Josef Taus in May 2005 , which led to a dispute over ownership. The dispute came before the International Court of Arbitration at the Zurich Chamber of Commerce .
Mobtel hit the headlines when the Serbian government revoked Mobtel's license on December 29, 2005 because it had illegally entered into a contract with a company in the province of Kosovo . After that, Mobtel was placed under the administration of the state competitor Telekom Srbija and operated under the name Mobi63 .
On July 31, 2006, the company was sold to the Norwegian company Telenor at an auction for 1.5 billion euros and renamed Telenor Srbija .
The area codes for the network are 062, 063 and 069.
Cellular network
2G GSM
The GSM network covers over 99% of the Serbian population, has been equipped with the EDGE data accelerator throughout the country since 2008 and transmits mostly in the 900MHz frequency band. The 1800MHz frequency band has been continuously reduced in recent years and the frequencies for the 4G / LTE network released. Individual cell phone locations are only operated with UMTS and LTE technology. (As of July 2019)
3G UMTS
Telenor started on March 1, 2007 with its UMTS network. In 2012, the entire network was upgraded with the DC- HSPA + data accelerator , which enabled transmission speeds of up to 42 Mbit / s. In 2014, work began on converting the entire UMTS network, which until then had only broadcast on 2100 MHz, to the 900 MHz band. to achieve the same network coverage as with the GSM network. The UMTS network now covers 99.5% of the Serbian population. (As of July 2019)
4G LTE
The LTE network was launched in May 2015 and is operated and expanded using carrier aggregation on the frequencies 800 MHz and 1800 MHz. LTE - Advanched with up to 300 Mbit / s is available in almost the entire LTE network and covers 93.6% of the Serbian population. (As of July 2019)
5G NO
Telenor plans to make the 5G network available in the second half of 2020.
