The Telekom Srbija (full name: Preduzece za telekomunikacije Telekom Srbija ad ) is a Serbian telecommunications company , which in June 1997 as a joint stock company was founded.

history

Telekom Srbija emerged from the state-owned Pošta, Telegraf i Telefon (PTT). In 1997, 49 percent of the share capital valued at over 800 million euros (1.568 billion DM ) was sold in a public auction . 29 percent went to Telecom Italia and 20 percent to the Greek OTE .

In 2002 the Italian company withdrew and sold its stake to the state, so that today 80 percent is again in state hands via the postal service provider Pošta Srbije .

All types of communication including internet access are offered. Since August 9, 1997, mobile communications in the 900 MHz network have also been offered under the name MTS (Mobilna Telefonija Srbije).

In 2006, 65 percent of the telecommunications company Telekom Srpske operating in Bosnia-Herzegovina were acquired for 646 million euros.

In 2010, Deutsche Telekom showed interest in acquiring a stake in the company, as the Serbian government wanted to sell half of its 80 percent. The remaining 20 percent belong to the Greek group OTE , in which Deutsche Telekom has a 30 percent stake. France Telecom , Telekom Austria , the Mexican América Móvil , the Turkish Turkcell and the Egyptian Weather Investments were also interested in the shares .

In March 2011, the Austrian Telekom Austria was the only one to announce a takeover offer for 51% of the shares from 800 to 950 million euros; on the other hand, the Serbian government is demanding 1.4 billion euros and therefore does not want to enter into negotiations with Telekom Austria.

On May 4, 2011, Telekom Austria announced that it would make an adapted conditional offer as part of the bidding process carried out by the Ministry of Finance of the Republic of Serbia for the sale of the 51% stake in Telekom Srbija ad, the state telecommunications provider in the Republic of Serbia has submitted.
