The flat cap , outside the Bundeswehr bands hat called, is a flat, round hat.

armed forces

The flat cap is part of the uniform of a team member of the German Navy . It consists of a cap frame, a cap cover with a cockade and a cap ribbon. In the early years of the Bundeswehr (until the 1970s) soldiers were equipped with white and blue hat covers, today only with white ones. The name of the boat, ship or agency to which the soldier belongs is written in gold letters on the cap ribbon. Should this not be recognizable, a cap band "Bundesmarine", today "Deutsche Marine", was drawn in.

history

The flat cap has had a cockade since 1884 and has been white since 1886. Another component is the dark cap band, the ends of which are dovetail-shaped and hang down at the back of the head. The black silk ribbons are supposed to be a reminder that in the past centuries the crew and non-commissioned officers wore tarred, waxed or oiled braids and wrapped them with a black, tarred ribbon. Other rumors have it that the two ribbons mean mourning ribbon for Lord Nelson .

Russian flat cap

The flat caps were first introduced in the Russian Navy in 1811. The German forerunner of the flat cap that is worn today was announced by the War Ministry in the Military Weekly Gazette No. 33 with the Supreme Uniform Regulations on a change of uniform and an alignment of rank in Prussia of April 27, 1849 as part of the first official uniform . An addition in the decree stipulated that the low sailor's hat should be provided with a black silk ribbon on which the name of the ship or simply Royal Navy is printed. In 1873 it was determined that to differentiate between the individual naval parts, the cap band is the part of the uniform of the teams from which the distinctive signs of the individual naval parts have to emerge. While the cap band has survived to this day except for the color and lettering, the flat cap has undergone numerous changes.
