The Temmondai Rock ( Norwegian Observatorieheia ) is a rock formation on the Crown Prince Olav Coast in Queen Maud Land in East Antarctica . It rises on the east side of the mouth of the Higashi-naga-iwa glacier .
It was mapped and photographed by participants in the Japanese Antarctic Expedition, which lasted from 1957 to 1962 and named it 天文台 岩 Temmondai-iwa (Japanese for observatory rock ). The US Advisory Committee on Antarctic Names translated the Japanese name into English in 1968.
