Temple Houston is an American western series that was produced between 1963 and 1964.
action
The plot is loosely based on the life of the historic Temple Lea Houston , a lawyer in the Wild West . As a lawyer, he usually defends innocent defendants and has to convince the jury of his client's acquittal. In later episodes he sometimes acts as a detective himself to prove the innocence of his clients.
background
Temple Lea Houston was a lawyer and a member of the Texas Senate between 1885 and 1889 . He was the son of the President of the Republic of Texas and future Senator and Governor of Texas , Sam Houston .
The pilot for the series called The Man From Galveston was made in 1957, but was initially not broadcast. The concept was only remembered when a slot became available due to scheduling difficulties. Since, apart from the main actor, none of the other actors were available at short notice, the roles were reassigned. The pilot film was evaluated as a feature film in 1963.
The series, produced by former actor Jack Webb , was discontinued after the end of the first season due to commercial failure. Since his modified concept of 77 Sunset Strip was unsuccessful, he was fired from Warner Bros. after only 10 months as production manager .
Guest stars on the series included Robert Conrad , William Conrad , Royal Dano , Victor French , Virginia Gregg , Richard Jaeckel , Victor Jory , Robert Lansing , Tom Skerritt , Connie Stevens , Anne Francis and Susan Kohner .
