Robert Lansing (born June 5, 1928 in San Diego , California , USA ; † October 23, 1994 in New York , USA ), actually Robert Howell Brown , was an American actor who has appeared in numerous films, television series and plays.

Life

Robert Lansing appeared in the science fiction film The 4D Man (1959) and on the side of Joan Collins in the horror film In the violence of the giant ants (1977). In the 1960s, he gained greater popularity, especially among US audiences, for his role as Brigadier General Frank Savage in the television series Twelve O'Clock High . Lansing has made numerous guest appearances on well-known television series, including Bonanza , Simon & Simon, and Mord is her Hobby . In the 1980s he had a more prominent role in the television series The Equalizer . He then played in Kung Fu - In the Sign of the Dragon until shortly before his death .

Among fans of the American science fiction television series Star Trek he is mainly known as the extraterrestrial secret agent Gary Seven (in Germany: Felix Sevenrock) (alias Supervisor 194 ), whom he was featured in the spaceship enterprise episode "A planet, called Earth “ ( English Assignment: Earth ) embodied. Robert Lansing was the only guest star in the original Star Trek series whose name was faded in at the beginning of the episode and not, as is usually the case, first mentioned in the credits. The reason for this was that a spin-off series with him in the lead role was supposed to grow out of the episode , but it was never realized.

From 1956 to 1969 Robert Lansing was married to actress Emily McLaughlin , with whom he also has a son, Robert Frederick Orin Lansing. His second marriage to Gari Hardy had a daughter, Alice Lucille Lansing. The third marriage to Anne Pivar lasted until his death. Lansing, who can be seen smoking particularly often in some early roles, died of lung cancer in New York in 1994 at the age of 66 and was buried in Union Field Cemetery in Ridgewood .
