The Temple St-Esprit is a church building in Besançon ( Doubs department ) in France that serves a Reformed congregation within the United Protestant Church of France . The church is a monument historique in the entire ensemble of the former Heilig-Geist-Hospital.

history

The hospital was founded at the beginning of the 13th century by the Order of the Holy Spirit , which also consecrated the associated hospital church to the Holy Spirit . In 1792 the clergy were expelled from the hospital, the hospital itself was closed in 1797. The Church of St-Esprit has served the Reformed Church since 1842 .

The church of St-Esprit was built in the 13th century in simple Gothic forms and a chapel was added in the 15th century. In 1841 the old portal was replaced by a neo-Gothic western building based on plans by the architect Alphonse Delacroix.
