The Tenax I is one of the early camera models for 35mm films . It was produced by Zeiss Ikon from 1939.

history

In the late 1920s, the 35mm camera format gained interest at Leica and Zeiss Ikon, as it enabled very small and compact cameras to be realized with good image quality at the same time.

After a Tenax had appeared in 1930 , an even smaller version came onto the market in 1939. It was named Tenax I , while the more elaborately constructed sister model was renamed Tenax II . The first models were equipped with a folding viewfinder , which, although very compact, was easy to use for transport. Production ended in 1941 due to the war.

After the Second World War , production was resumed in Dresden in 1948 . Around 1953 the camera was modified and got a viewfinder permanently integrated into the housing and an improved elevator. A short time later it was renamed Taxona , as the rights to the Zeiss Ikon brands became the property of the part of the company that remained in the western part of Germany.

technology

The Tenax I is designed for 35mm films, but exposes in the format 24 mm × 24 mm. Thus, on a commercially available 35mm film for 36 exposures with this camera, 50 square images fit. The film is transported via a lever next to the lens. For rewinding the drive reel is unlocked with a button next to the viewfinder, which can easily be mistaken for the shutter release button . Now the film can be pulled back into the cartridge with the large knurled wheel.

The camera is equipped with a Novar - lens (later tessar ) of Carl Zeiss Jena 37.5 mm fixed focal length and a Compur - (later Tempor -) shutter provided that exposure times of between 1/300 and 1 s manual including a long arbitrarily Opening allowed.

The camera can be placed on a tripod . Later versions also received a flash synchronization and a thread for a cable release .
