The Tengkangpoche (also Teng Kang Poche ) is a mountain in the Himalayas in the southeast of the Rolwaling Himal mountain range .
The 6487 m high Tengkangpoche is located west of Namche Bazar in the Lumding Himal ridge in the Khumbu region of the Nepalese administrative region Sagarmatha . The trekking peak Kongde Ri ( 6187 m ) is 4.64 km further east. The mountain village of Thame is not far from Tengkangpoche.
The first approved ascent of Tengkangpoche was achieved by Simon Anthamatten and Ueli Steck on April 24, 2008. They reached the summit by first ascent of the north face in alpine style ( Checkmate : 1700 m, M7 +, WI5, 6 / A0), for which they did the Piolet d ' Or were awarded.
Before that, there was at least one unauthorized ascent of Tengkangpoche - by Trevor Pilling and Andy Zimet in 1984 over the east ridge.
The Tengkangpoche is a popular destination for climbers. In addition to the Checkmate (“checkmate”) ascent route, others lead to the summit of Tengkangpoche, for example Moonlight and Battle for Love , both on the northeast face .
